What a Bathroom Remodel Costs in Atlanta in 2026

By Samantha Phillips Hayes, Founder, Design & Vision

A bathroom refresh in Atlanta usually runs about $5,000 to $12,000. A full hall bath remodel in the same layout lands around $15,000 to $30,000, and a primary bath with a custom tile shower and double vanity typically runs $30,000 to $60,000 and up.

The bathroom is the smallest room in the house and somehow the one people dream about most. A walk-in shower you actually look forward to. A vanity with room for two. Tile that makes the whole space feel calm. Here is how to see where your project will land before anyone picks up a hammer.

The short answer, by scope

  • Refresh ($5,000 to $12,000). Same layout, same tub or shower. New vanity and top, new faucet and fixtures, new lighting and mirror, fresh paint, maybe a new toilet. This is the fastest way to make a dated bathroom feel new.
  • Full hall bath ($15,000 to $30,000). Everything comes out down to the studs in the wet areas. New tile floor, new tub or shower with tile surround, new vanity, fixtures, lighting and ventilation. The layout stays put.
  • Primary bath ($30,000 to $60,000+). A custom tile shower, often with glass, a double vanity, upgraded lighting and finishes. Sometimes a tub becomes a walk-in shower, or a closet borrows a few feet.
  • Layout change (add $10,000 or more). Moving the toilet, the shower drain or a wall means new plumbing and framing, and that is where bathroom budgets climb fastest.

What actually drives your number

  • Tile, and how much of it. Tile is usually the biggest single line in a bathroom. A tiled shower to the ceiling, a patterned floor or a full tile wall look beautiful and add labor hours fast. Choosing where tile does the most work is one of the smartest design decisions in the room.
  • Shower versus tub. Converting a tub to a walk-in shower is one of the most requested projects we see. It is very doable, and the price depends on the shower size, the glass and whether the drain has to move.
  • Keeping the plumbing where it is. Just like a kitchen, leaving the toilet, sink and shower drain in place protects your budget more than any finish choice.
  • What is behind the walls. Plenty of Atlanta homes were built before 1980. Once the old tile comes off, we sometimes find soft subfloor, old galvanized supply lines or a vent fan that never vented anywhere. Those are real fixes, and it is far better to make them while the room is open.

How long your bathroom will take

  • A refresh takes about a week. Nothing moves, so the crew is in and out quickly.
  • A full hall bath takes about two to three weeks. Demo, plumbing and electrical updates, waterproofing, tile, then fixtures and finish.
  • A primary bath takes about three to six weeks, depending on the tile work, custom glass and how quickly selections are made.

Custom shower glass is measured after the tile is set, so it is often the last piece to arrive. Before any build starts, allow time for design, selections and ordering. We give you both dates up front: when we start, and when you get your bathroom back.

Which choices pay you back

If you plan to stay for years, build the bathroom that makes your mornings better. If you might sell within a few years, buyers in most Atlanta price ranges respond to clean, bright and current: a fresh vanity, good lighting, a well-done shower and neutral tile. Samantha has sold homes in this market for twenty years, so we will tell you which upgrades buyers in your price range actually reward before you spend a dollar. That conversation is part of our Listing Advantage™ process.

Frequently asked questions

What is the least expensive way to update a bathroom in Atlanta?

A refresh. A new vanity, faucet, mirror, lighting and paint can change how a bathroom feels for about $5,000 to $12,000, and it usually takes about a week.

How much does it cost to convert a tub to a walk-in shower in Atlanta?

Most tub-to-shower conversions land inside the full hall bath range, roughly $15,000 to $30,000, depending on the shower size, the tile, the glass and whether the drain needs to move.

Do I need a permit to remodel a bathroom in Atlanta?

Cosmetic updates like paint, a new vanity or new fixtures in the same spot usually do not. Moving plumbing, adding circuits or changing walls generally does. We pull the permits our work requires so you do not have to.

Can I use my house while you remodel the bathroom?

Yes, as long as you have another working bathroom. Most of our clients stay home throughout. If it is your only bathroom, tell us early and we will plan the schedule around that.

Can you work to a fixed budget?

Yes. Tell us the number first and we will design to it, rather than designing something beautiful and then telling you what it costs.

Do I need a designer before I call you?

No. Design is the studio half of our name. We handle the layout, the tile and fixture selections and the full material package. If you already have a designer you love, we are happy to work with them.
